The world has no shortage of ominous stories and complex issues right now. And I’m certainly not smart or informed enough to comment of any of them.

So, instead, for this month, I visited the Kids Nat Geo website, specifically the Weird But True section, and amassed some fun facts for you. Here’s 5 of them:

  1. Ketchup was originally sold as medicine. (WHAT?!?)
  2. A sea turtle can weigh as much as a buffalo. (Get the heck out.)
  3. A blue whale’s heart weighs up to 2,000 pounds. (Pretty big, aye)
  4. A hippo’s lips are about 2 feet wide. (Imagine kissing lips 2 feet wide)
  5. On Jupiter, right now, there’s a hurricane that has been going strong for 300 years. (Being a weatherman on Jupiter would be pretty easy. “The forecast says there will be lots of wind tomorrow—and for the next 300 years.”)

Well, I don’t know about you. But if I was a betting man and just so happened to be watching a sea turtle and a buffalo on The Biggest Loser, I would have definitely put a lot of money on the buffalo weighing more. But I wouldn’t now. And that’s why it’s important to know these things.
